I had a quiet weekend for the first time in a long time – zero obligations. I went shopping for a new mattress (WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE?!), helped my mom sync her iPad and upload some photos and cleaned my house. I also made chocolate chip cookies last night after my husband asked me a million times if we had cake or cookies in the house – knowing that every time he asked me neither of those things had magically appeared yet. When I bake chocolate chip cookies I buy Ghirardelli Chocolate Chips and follow their recipe for chocolate chip cookies because it requires extra vanilla and it’s so much better than Nestle Tollhouse. This I know for a fact, a very delicious fact.
I also know for a fact that Buxom Hot Escapes Bronzer is the bee’s knees. There are two shades, Tahiti (left) is a golden bronze and Maldives (right) is a deeper, richer bronze. I was just about to go on a hunt for a new bronzer when these babies landed up on my doorstep courtesy of the folks at Bare Escentuals. Even brown girls need a bit of a glow and the way mother nature is acting up right now I’m faking it with this stuff. I like to do a little swirl of bronzer on the cheeks and then a great pop of pink blush right on the apples – it makes me look fresh (in a good way). I know I haven’t done a lot of beauty posts in a while but I’ve also got some new Buxom lipsticks to share, some eyeliner favorites for summer beauty and a few other things coming in the few weeks. So stay tuned!
Since Thursday was 3.14 (Pi Day) and since my husband and I are kind of nerdy I decided to make pie to celebrate being nerds. I mean, when else do I have a random reason to make pie?! I bought a premade deep dish pie shell at the grocery store and made a chocolate chip and hazelnut pie. It was delicious.
I also made a great discovery on Thursday, apparently I come in pillow form! My favorite sale site is Fab.com and I found the My Name is Simone pillow in Josephine but realized she bares a very close resemblance to ME!! How hilarious is that? I decided since this might only happen once in a blue moon I should just order the pillow. I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival.
I hope you had a nice Valentine’s day and celebrated the day with those that you love the most. I made my husband’s favorite for dinner last night, beef and mushroom ragu or as we like to call it…fancy spaghetti. It’s like your traditional spaghetti gets a mature and delicious upgrade. It takes a bit of time to cook (2 hours) and I like to make it the night before so that the flavors blend together overnight. A delicious past dinner topped of with a piece of cookie cake…Yum! That’s my kind of Valentine’s day date! I plan on knitting and relaxing over the long weekend, I hope you enjoy it yourself!
The other night I spent about $50 restocking my winter warm beverages in my pantry. It was a $50 well spent. I’m a big tea drinker and as it gets colder I love a good cup of hot cocoa. So I popped on over to World Market and picked up the following beverages:
Red Velvet Hot Chocolate: The canister had me at red velvet. It smells so much like a red velvet cupcake it’s scary.
Republic of Tea Merry Mint Chocolate Tea: A mix of mint, chocolate and black tea. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it but the chocolate isn’t overpowering, the mint is just the right amount and the blend is very nice. I like it with a splash of milk or creamer.
Republic of Tea Comfort & Joy Tea: If I had to pick one tea to drink forever this would be the one. It comes out every October and I buy 1 or 2 tins and make it last for a year. I love it. Love it, love it, love it.
Hazelnut Chai tea: My husband loves hazelnuts and a good chai so I threw this one in my cart just for him.
Silly Cow Farms Hot Chocolate, Marshmallow Swirl: Last year I learned the joys of marshmallow fluff in my cocoa but I thought a cocoa with extra marshmallow goodness would be tasty too.
So I think I’m well stocked for the winter months, what’s on your tasty beverage list?
I think I’m going to bake cookies at some point this weekend. Between all the knitting I’ve been doing (I really need a hand massage), work and any other social activities I don’t know where I will find the time. I’m considering making snickerdoodles (pictured above), brownie cookies (my most demanded cookie), chewy ginger cookies and if I have time a batch or two of red velvet sandwich cookies. It’s a really ambitious plan for the few hours of time I’ll have on Sunday. Perhaps Saturday night I’ll make a lot of dough and then Sunday night I can just bake, bake, bake! We’ll see. I may be up to my eyeballs in holiday cookies.
Speaking of holiday, how festive is this nail color? It’s China Glaze Running in Circles, part of their Cirque du Soleil collection – not even part of a holiday collection! The color applied gorgeously in two even coats and it’s like having a green ornament on your fingertips. I absolutely love this color.
Another thing I loved this week, my outfit on Thursday. I went with a white and black polka dot sweater, my periwinkle blue pleated skirt and matching tights with black bow pointy toe flats. I kept twirling in my living room and I’m pretty sure my husband thought I was crazy. Sometimes I just need the right dose of color to make my day fantastic. Those are my three things, what are three good things with you? Oh and have a great weekend!
