A Vivid Point of View

Posted on March 28, 2013

I am mildly obsessed with @berrocodesign Versa yarn. Now I need to make a scarf for this hat. #yarn #knitting #colorful
If you’ve been reading this blog for a long time or you know me in real life you are quite aware that I’m very colorful. I pride myself on the fact that sometimes in a sea of grey and black coats I’m the one wearing hot pink, or apple green, or orange. My collection of tights is like a rainbow. My home is full of color and the artwork that I love is also colorful.

Yesterday we went to a celebration with friends in the afternoon and everyone kept commenting on how colorful I was. I had on a colorblocked dress with shades of pink, dark orange and purple, pink tights and a bright pink coat. That was just my normal work attire, nothing special but sometimes I forget that my normal isn’t everyone else’s standard of normal – and I’m totally okay with that.
Colorful kicks
This morning in the car with my husband we were discussing colors. He has mid range colorblindness, he knows colors but has difficulty deciphering them when they’re close together or too similar in tone. He saw something as black and I told him it was navy blue. His response to me, “the world you see must be really vivid, huh?” I laughed, realized it really is a vivid world I see and had to smile. I hope I always see the world in bright vivid color, it makes it so much happier to me that way.

Lipstick Obsessed | Maybelline ColorSensational Vivid Lipsticks

Posted on February 5, 2013

Untitled
I’m a HUGE fan of bold lips right now. HUGE! Sometimes all you need to make a bold statement or to have a big beauty impact is a strong flash of lip color and some mascara. I’ve had a few bold lip favorites lip MAC’s Ruby Woo but I also like drugstore brands that can give you the same concentrated lip colors but at a lower price point. I was super excited and ran out to find the new Maybelline ColorSensational lipsticks in the Vivids.

I picked up (from top to bottom) Vibrant Madarin, Wild Rose (my favorite) and Brazen Berry. I’ve been a fan of the ColorSensational line for a while and love the creaminess of the colors and the staying power. The fact that it’s now super powered full of vibrant color in a collection really makes me happy. Wild Rose is a gorgeously perfect hot pink that has become a staple in my makeup bag. I have a feeling Vibrant Madarin will be my summer go to bright orange lip and Brazen Berry is a very unique purple/vivid mauve shade that is suprisingly versatile. Have any of you picked up the Vivids? What do you think?

3 Delicious Things

Posted on November 2, 2012

Doing something different tonight, brussel sprouts!
I never had Brussels sprouts until last week. I found out that my mother hates them which would probably be why I’ve never tried them before but to my surprise and my husband’s we like them a lot in our household. I’m not a huge cabbage fan but man did I love these tasty sprouts. I slow cooked short ribs in an Asian based sauce and then sauteed Brussels sprouts in a little olive oil with red onion, salt and pepper and then used the same sauce for the beef to glaze the sprouts. They were delicious and my husband had seconds of the sprouts and asked me to make more the next day. That’s a vegetable victory in my book.
Tea, my first macaroon and earl grey ice cream with @jesswonderland #perfection
When I went to NYC the other weekend I made my normal trip over to SOHO to stock up at Harney & Sons Tea Shop with Jess. Their decaffeinated earl grey tea rocks my world like nobody’s business (without upsetting my stomach like super strong earl grey tea typically does). While we were in the shop we decided to take a break and actually have tea in their tiny tea room in the back of the store. This was the best tea time I’ve ever had and having tea at Harney’s has to be a new tradition from now on. I’d never had a macaroon before and I had an earl grey one that was just divine, along with earl grey ice cream (a favorite of mine) and a Vietnamese earl grey that was so delicious. Not only was the service great but it was so inexpensive! I highly recommend it if you haven’t been there before.
Brooklyn tastes good.
And since I’m on a roll with things that taste good, I had a sip of Brooklyn while in NYC and it was delightful. My husband is from Brooklyn and you can’t tell him there’s a greater city in the world so I thought it was appropriate to pick up an Olde Brooklyn soda. I love a black cherry soda and this one was just the right amount of sweet with a mild taste to it. Very yummy. So those are my three delicious things, have a great weekend!

Bold Baby Knits

Posted on September 10, 2012

I have been a little bored with the fashion week shows I’ve seen lately, so I thought I’d share my completed knitting projects today since I hadn’t posted for a few days. Now that I’ve finished these two blankets I’ve got lots of free time to work on knitting up fall pieces for my soon to be Etsy shop – YAY!
photo
I have two girlfriends who were having baby girls but they both had completely different tastes and color palettes. For baby Kennedy I did a pink, green and brown color scheme with stitches that alternated between diagonals and stripes.

I love learning new stitches and seeing what combinations will work together. I thought this combo was pretty quick and easy to do.

For baby Opal I was given the color combo of orange and yellow with a bit of purple if I could make it work. I think I made it work out quite nicely if I do say so myself!
Opal's Blanket
I tried to find a stitch that I could easily learn that might mimic an O in the pattern for Opal and this is what I came up with. I also used a variegated yarn with orange, yellow, pink and purple in it to pull all the O color blocks together.
Opal's Blanket
I even had enough left to make a little hat to match for when she’s in the hospital instead of those generic pink and blue hats they put on every baby. Making teeny tiny hats is so easy and quick and they are the sweetest little things. Oh how I love it.
Opal's Blanket
So that’s what I’ve been up to knitting wise. I’ve got some beauty buys and purchases I’ve made recently for fall that I hope to share later this week!

A Dash of Color

Posted on August 28, 2012

Yesterday black was boring so today a purple wrap dress & green @mizmooz shoes! Even got a compliment on the shoes this morning.
I have a few ideas of outfit posts and things I’d like to do but honestly, life has been hectic. And when I do have free time I’ve been knitting away (I really do want to create an Etsy shop by October!). One thing I have been doing is trying to keep my wardrobe options as colorful as possible. The other day, purple wrap dress and green shoes. Today, bright orange dress and floral pumps. Colors just makes me feel fantastic. I also feel fantastic because Thursday is my birthday and everyone seems to be wanting to treat me to lunch or do something special for me. I figure I might as well soak it up while I can. And hopefully things will calm down soon and I can take some outfit photos!
