#MoxieUp | New Bare Escentuals Moxie Lipsticks, Glosses & Liners

Posted on May 9, 2013

Items in this post were provided for review, opinions are all mine.
#MoxieUp
The folks at Bare Escentuals are introducing us to Moxie lipsticks (18), liners (10) and lipglosses (14). I already owned the lipgloss in Sparkplug (a shimmery nude) that I picked up a while back and has been a staple in my purse but they sent over 4 of each in a range of shades for me to share with you.
MoxieUp
I was sent for review in lipsticks: Light It Up (medium coral creme), Risk It All (hot pink creme), Lead the Way (a deep berry creme) and Stand Out (a medium brown creme, nude on me). These lipsticks are super moisturizing, leave a gorgeous stain on the lips and fade nicely. They wear beautifully for a few hours but as with any lipstick once you start to really eat food they will wear off. I do love how nicely they leave a stain on the lips.
MoxieUp
I also like the cases on these, they have a little silver button that you push to release the cap from the tube. It took a bit of getting used to but it’s a cute little packaging idea.
MoxieUp
The glosses I was sent for review were: Maverick (dark nude with shimmer), Smooth Talker (a pink gloss with gold shimmer), Game Changer (red with just a hint of sparkle to it) and Trail Blazer (light shimmery nude).
MoxieUp
This is me rocking Game Changer, I am not a huge red lip gloss fan but I do love the formula of the Moxie glosses. They have a mild scent to them and they’re not sticky or tacky at all – LOVE! They give a good gloss to your lips and they are actually a bit moisturizing. I love when I can slick on a lip product without any lip balm at all.
MoxieUp
I was also sent lip liners for review: Jazzed (hot pink), Electrified (deep berry), Energized (coral) and Revved (a darker nude). The liners are creamy, give great color and I think are a nice under layer to the lipgloss. I find that if you apply liner and then gloss it will last a bit longer. They also have their own sharpeners as well – super convenient.

All in all, I have to say I love all of the Moxie items an I definitely will be picking up more shades! There’s a lavender creme that is calling my name! I see a stop to Sephora in my future. Have you seen Moxie yet? Anything you’re interested in trying?

A Vivid Point of View

Posted on March 28, 2013

I am mildly obsessed with @berrocodesign Versa yarn. Now I need to make a scarf for this hat. #yarn #knitting #colorful
If you’ve been reading this blog for a long time or you know me in real life you are quite aware that I’m very colorful. I pride myself on the fact that sometimes in a sea of grey and black coats I’m the one wearing hot pink, or apple green, or orange. My collection of tights is like a rainbow. My home is full of color and the artwork that I love is also colorful.
New colorful rug for the kitchen sink, a lovely @target purchase on clearance. #livecolorfully
Yesterday we went to a celebration with friends in the afternoon and everyone kept commenting on how colorful I was. I had on a colorblocked dress with shades of pink, dark orange and purple, pink tights and a bright pink coat. That was just my normal work attire, nothing special but sometimes I forget that my normal isn’t everyone else’s standard of normal – and I’m totally okay with that.
Colorful kicks
This morning in the car with my husband we were discussing colors. He has mid range colorblindness, he knows colors but has difficulty deciphering them when they’re close together or too similar in tone. He saw something as black and I told him it was navy blue. His response to me, “the world you see must be really vivid, huh?” I laughed, realized it really is a vivid world I see and had to smile. I hope I always see the world in bright vivid color, it makes it so much happier to me that way.

Lipstick Obsessed | Maybelline ColorSensational Vivid Lipsticks

Posted on February 5, 2013

Untitled
I’m a HUGE fan of bold lips right now. HUGE! Sometimes all you need to make a bold statement or to have a big beauty impact is a strong flash of lip color and some mascara. I’ve had a few bold lip favorites lip MAC’s Ruby Woo but I also like drugstore brands that can give you the same concentrated lip colors but at a lower price point. I was super excited and ran out to find the new Maybelline ColorSensational lipsticks in the Vivids.

I picked up (from top to bottom) Vibrant Madarin, Wild Rose (my favorite) and Brazen Berry. I’ve been a fan of the ColorSensational line for a while and love the creaminess of the colors and the staying power. The fact that it’s now super powered full of vibrant color in a collection really makes me happy. Wild Rose is a gorgeously perfect hot pink that has become a staple in my makeup bag. I have a feeling Vibrant Madarin will be my summer go to bright orange lip and Brazen Berry is a very unique purple/vivid mauve shade that is suprisingly versatile. Have any of you picked up the Vivids? What do you think?

Segway, the Only Way to Travel

Posted on December 5, 2012

Segway Tour
On Sunday my husband and my cousin who is in college in DC went on a DC tour via segway. I bought a Groupon a while back for a segway tour through Bike the Sites so my Dad could go but he ended up going out of town. My 20 year old cousin had apparently always wanted to ride a segway and she jumped at the chance when we invited her to come with us.
Segway Tour
I have to admit I was a bit more of a cautious rider than those two but I could tell how much fun they had. They were zipping and racing around the Lincoln monument and smoothly navigating the DC streets. By the time the two and half hour tour was over even I didn’t want to get off the segway.
Segway Tour
It was so much fun we even got over having to wear yellow helmets (obviously safety first but could the helmets have at least been black?!).
Segway Tour
I love that I work in DC and live in the suburbs but I totally think you have to enjoy the city you’re in to the fullest. I love touring the sites, going to the museums, the cherry blossom festival – it’s part of what makes DC great. If you get to visit DC or live near a major city and can do a segway tour I highly recommend it. I’m definitely going to buy tickets to the one in Annapolis for the spring and take my Dad then. It was so much fun it actually makes me think about buying a segway for myself! If only…

Candy Corn Cuteness

Posted on October 31, 2012

A lot has happened in the two weeks since I posted. I’ve been travelling, working, knitting…oh and there was a hurricane that came through our area. I feel horrible for the folks in New Jersey and New York who have lost so much. We got it pretty mildly here in Maryland and I only had some minor flooding in my basement and I couldn’t imagine losing my home. So in the midst of that devastation I thought I’d share something that just makes me smile.
Candy Corn Before & After
I’m not a huge Halloween person but when I saw this pattern for a candy corn costume to knit in September I called my girlfriend and asked if this would be too embarrassing for my godson. She thought it was too cute and I prepared to knit this little cocoon and pointy cap, perfect for a 3 month old. It even had little arm holes so he could get his fingers in his mouth. And yesterday when I took his picture I found out that it was national candy corn day – so appropriate! Happy Halloween!
